BENEFITS OF SHAPEWEAR

BENEFITS OF SHAPEWEAR

Shapewear has become a key component to many women’s, and some men’s, wardrobe. Wearing shapewear has become as habitual as putting on your knickers or socks. But, others have some practical questions about the benefits of it, the potential risks and the role it plays in creating your best self. So, how does this fashion technology work?

How does shapewear work?

Shapewear helps create smooth lines due to elastic or rigid fabrics being cut into such a pattern and then sewn or knitted together. The finished garment nips and tucks the body.

Other benefits of properly fitted garments are improved posture, increased confidence, and a stronger walk, which gives you an all-over sleeker, more sophisticated physique.

Is shapewear effective in actually slimming our bodies?

Yes - when the fabric is cut and sewn together, as opposed to knitted seamlessly like hosiery. When cut and sewn, designers are able to ‘catch' spots in our typically troublesome areas and enhance them. Hosiery-style seamless knitting, by contrast, tends to flatten curves. Both techniques slim the body, just in different ways.

However, with inadequately sized shapewear, excess fat can be pushed up over the waistband of a bikini pant, for example, creating the "muffin top" look. With appropriate coverage of the torso, the control fabric holds the body in a smaller area, making the body appear thinner and smoother. Either way, choose shapewear which works best for your body and needs.

Can wearing shapewear be dangerous?

Some reports have indicated that severe constriction while wearing shapewear may cause blood clots, acid reflux, and breathing problems. However, if worn properly there should be no health implications at all. Instead they should have positive benefits such as stimulating circulation and muscle support.

Where does all of the fat go?

We've established that shapewear works—it slims, supports and smooths out lines. But, where does the fat go? Essentially, it moves into spaces where muscle is compressed, such as the abs. It can also be moved directionally, towards more desirable places. This means that it can slim you up to one to two inches.

With good quality, well-designed shapewear, it can also create a more sexy look by moving the fat to better placed areas such as breasts, to create cleavage, or your bottom.

So, all in all, shapewear is a very effective option for creating that perfect look!
